Grant Calls
In line with our mission to deliver ‘positive and sustainable impact on the well-being of society’, Yayasan PETRONAS aims to achieve this by working with like-minded organisations as our partners.
Eligibility
Our open call grants seek to facilitate projects that cultivate empowered, resilient and progressive communities in Malaysia.
Applications must address one or more of our three pillars: Powering Knowledge, Uplifting Lives and Planting Tomorrow, with a project duration of 3 years with a grant of up to RM1 million. The applications should also demonstrate the following:
- Proven value creation and long-term impact to the targeted beneficiaries
- Outcomes and impact that can be clearly measured
- Self-sustaining upon project’s exit
- Practice good governance and transparent in communicating the risks that the project entails and mitigation plans.

Promote the advancement and development of human capital and capabilities in Malaysia through provision of education aid and training.
Enable high quality STEM education and inclusive education support.
Uplifting Lives
Promote community well-being and development through long term sustainable advancements in the areas of socio-economic developments, healthcare, safety and living environments among the communities in Malaysia.
Contribute to well-being and economic opportunities for underprivileged communities.
Planting Tomorrow
Promote and advance the preservation and conservation of the environment in Malaysia and related study and research.
Increase resilience of vulnerable communities through nature-based solutions.
Yayasan PETRONAS typically supports proven projects that require funding to scale or initiatives in which the organisation has strong expertise in. The projects should have the following features:
- Proven value creation and long-term impact to the targeted beneficiaries
- Outcomes and impact that can be clearly measured
- Self-sustaining upon project’s exit
- Practice good governance and transparent in communicating the risks that the project entails and mitigation plans
In general, we accept projects that can be completed within 3 years, with a funding estimate of RM1,000,000.
Categories We Do Not Support
Please note that Yayasan PETRONAS does not support projects that are for proof of concept and the following items in the exclusion list:
- Organisations
- Political organisations / parties
- Politically-linked parties or lobby groups
- Blacklisted / unregistered companies or NGOs
- Gambling, alcohol, pornography and tobacco-related companies
- For-profit organisations*
- Individuals
- Employees of PETRONAS Group or its subsidiaries
- Individuals or individual pursuits
- Individual medical assistance
- Job attachments, internships, practicums
- Scholarships
- Religion
- Religious causes
- Religious organisations
- Events
- Fundraising events
- Commercial-purpose events
- Professional association meetings, forums, trade shows
- Parties, celebrations, parades, festivals and lotteries
- Promotions
- Advertising, development or production of books, films, videos, television programmes or websites / social media
- Merchandise promotions, partnerships or advertising
How to Apply?
Stage 1:
Eligibility Assessment
- Fill in the Application Form and submit the form together with the documents required.
- Applicants who passes the eligibility assessment will be contacted by YP Grant team to proceed to the next stage.
Stage 2:
Submission Of Proposal
- Upon receiving an eligibility confirmation from our team, you will receive an editable copy of the proposal templates and KYC form.
- Submit proposal and KYC form by deadline set.
- YP Grant team will schedule a call to gain a better understanding of the proposal.
Stage 3:
Decision For Proposal
- Shortlisted applicants will present the finalized proposed project to YP Evaluation Committee members.
- Successful applicants will
be notified via email to
proceed to contract
negotiation and finalization
stage.
Stage 4:
Proposal Implementation
- Grant recipient will implement the project as per final proposal agreed by both parties.
- Results and impact of the project will be monitored and evaluated.
Stage 1: Eligibility Assessment
Applying organisations would have to ensure that they meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Applicant must be registered as Not-For-Profit Organisations, NGOs, Foundations, Social Enterprises, or academic institutions. Preference will be given to Not-for-Profit Organisations.
- Applicant must be located and operate in Malaysia.
- Applicant must have experience and proven capability in conducting similar project.

List of documents
- Registration Certificate e.g., from The Registry of Societies Malaysia or Companies Commission of Malaysia. Social Enterprises should also provide the Social Enterprise Accreditation (SE. A) recognition from the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives
- Most recent Cash Flow Statement (minimum past 3 years)
- Most recent annual report / audited accounts (up to minimum past two years)
- Inland Revenue Board certificate showing tax-exempt status (for tax-exempt organisations)
Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis, so you do not need to wait until the closing date to submit your application. Our team will contact you within 5 working days after your submission to request for further information, if required. We recommend that you submit your application form as soon as you have finalized it.
Stage 2: Submission of Proposal
Upon receiving an eligibility confirmation from our team, you will receive an editable copy of the following:
- Proposal Paper Template (PDF)
- Proposal Presentation Template (PDF)
- Know-Your-Counterparty (KYC) form (PDF)
The completed project proposal should be submitted to the YP Grant team. Our team will schedule a call with the organization to gain a better understanding of the proposal.
You may include other information that may assist Yayasan PETRONAS in gaining a better understanding of your proposal.
Stage 3: Decision for Proposal
Yayasan PETRONAS will schedule a session where shortlisted applicants will present the finalized proposed project to Yayasan PETRONAS Evaluation Committee members. Successful applicants will be notified via email to proceed to contract negotiation and finalization stage. Applicants also need to read and agree to Yayasan PETRONAS’ terms and conditions (T&Cs) for Grant (PDF) which will form part of the contract. Due to the high number of applications, we typically receive and the detailed evaluation procedures, please note that the approval process may take up to three months.
Stage 4: Proposal Implementation
Grant recipient will implement the project as per the final proposal agreed by both parties. The implementation of the project will be in close coordination with our Operations team. Results and impact of the project will be monitored and evaluated.
